How to Overcome Fear and Regret

Fear, according to The Cambridge Dictionary, is "an unpleasant emotion or thought that you have when you are frightened or worried by something dangerous, painful or bad that is happening or might happen." It was once described by Napoleon Hill as "nothing more than states of mind." But is it really a state of mind, or more of a reality? Most often than not, we fear something that we think will happen. We may fear a lot of things in our lives, but do we realize that it holds us back from doing something? For example, have you ever come across a job posting in a local newspaper, but you did not apply because you fear that you will not be hired? Or maybe you have never asked someone you like on a date, for fear of being rejected. These are just two of the million things that we fear, and if we look closely, we realize that after this fear comes the feeling of regret that we did not do what we wanted to do.

Sometimes, our fears are so great that we worry too much and we get paralyzed by it, and then before we know it, the opportunity sails right out the window. Though fearing something is normal, but you must not let it overcome you.

Fear is a natural response. Stepping out of our comfort zone tells our minds that we are in a new territory. But you must not allow yourself to be consumed by the fear. You need to be prepared to face it, and head for the direction you are aiming for. Get moving and always take actions no matter how small it may be. This will enable you to figure out if you are headed towards the right path. If you give in to fear, you will never be able to take on the chance. Also, when you are taking small steps at a time, it becomes easier for you to change direction. Never allow yourself to get stuck at something just because you are afraid.

If you learn how to exercise caution, you may find that it is easier to control the fear to work on what you want. If you learn to acknowledge the fear and go on with caution, you will find it easier to spot problems before they even become something to fear about.

Fear is just a change of mindset. It is nothing more than that. If you allow yourself to stop worrying and fearing about things that have not even happened yet, then surely, you will be able to achieve and reach the opportunities and chances that life has given you fearlessly.
