Instructions on how to make your own 3D paper flower embellishments using a standard flower punch or flower die.

SUPPLY LIST:
Cardstock
Flower paper punch or die cut machine
Round filing tool or thin round object (optional)
Glue

Select a flower from you stash of punches or die cut machine. Then punch out four 6-petal flowers (this could also be made with flowers with less petals) from acid free scrapbook patterned paper or cardstock. Glitter and iridescent papers also make beautiful flowers. From the four flowers take three and make the following cuts from each full 6-petal flower.

From a full 6-petal flower cut away 1 petal.

From a full 6-petal flower cut away 2 petals.

From a full 6-petal flower cut away 3 petal, you will cut this one right in half.

You will end up with:

  • One complete 6-petal flower
  • One 5-petal flower and 1 petal by itself
  • One 4-petal flower and 2 petals together
  • One 3-petal flower or half a flower

Next carefully bend and curl the flower petals backwards on every flower petal. I also like to use my round filing tool from my Basic Grey Precision file set. Place the round filing tool under each petal and roll the petal backwards. You could also use any thin round item like a thin ink pen, paper piercer or even a chopstick. By using a round tool to bend and curl the petals you will get a more prominent bend.

On all flower pieces except for the complete 6-petal flower, place a bead of glue on one edge of the petal and place the other edge on top of the petal to glue the two ends together. Allow to dry. Then place a bead of glue in the center of each piece, placing the flowers inside each other. Place the 1 petal flower inside the 2-petal, then this piece inside the 3-petal and so on until all pieces are layered on top of the 6-petal flower. Allow glue to dry and then adhere to your project!

Add accents to your completed flowers by adding accents to the petals such as glitter, glimmer mist spray, chalking, inking, etc. Click this link to see a slideshow of step-by-step photos of how to make your own paper flower embellishment. These flowers make beautiful accents to scrapbook pages, gift tags and packages, or other craft and school projects. You could even one of these beautiful flowers to a headband to dress it up!
