How to Make Your Own Beach Jewelry

Almost everybody has been to the beach before. In addition, almost everybody, while there, has been to a local beach gift shop. Beach gift shops contain many tropical beach gift items for tourists, such as sandcastle sculptures, beach themed figurines, and beach jewelry made out of shells and rope. These items are also usually inflated in price, for how else would the business owners make a profit? However, many tourists will pay for these items without even stopping to think or realize that they could make this jewelry much cheaper themselves. It's much simpler than you would think and only contains a few easy steps.

You will need several seashells and a strand of rope. You can find the perfect seashells on the beach. The best times to go seashell hunting, however, is either in the early morning or late evening because that's when the most shells will have washed up onshore. I have almost always found my best shells at these times. The key is to pay attention to the tides. Note that when collecting your shells, you should only pick shells that have holes in them and are able to be threaded. There are tons of these types of shells, so if you're patient you'll stumble across some.

You can get the rope at any dollar store for a dollar for a large bundle of it. At Dollar Tree you can even get it in several different colors, including standard, blue, and red. However, most people prefer the traditional brown rope color because of its more natural look and tone.

Once you have your shells and your rope, you simply thread your shells onto the rope. Make sure that you measure your rope beforehand around your neck if you're making a necklace, your wrist if you're making a bracelet, or your ankle if you're making an ankle bracelet. Once you've got all of the shells threaded onto the rope, tie a loop hole in one end of the rope. Then tie a knot in the other end. To secure your bracelet or necklace, simply push the knot through the loop hole. This step might take a bit of adjusting.

That's how you make your own beach jewelry. You can completely thread your piece with shells or make a one shelled necklace. Moreover, you can even make an only rope necklace, which is very beach looking as well and popular among beach-goers. Your possibilities are endless. With just a bit of creativity, you can make your own completely customized beach jewelry designed especially for you.
