How to Make Your Own Costume for Fancy Parties

Linda Stamberger
Glamor is where its at when it comes to having star quality. Plastic packaged costume choices are simply drab compared to fancy vintage frocks and feathers. Costumes should always have an intelligent angle, and the best one does, for there is a cottage industry built around a distinct look and act. To get a cool look for a unique costume idea, one must incorporate the theme of the costume with fancy accessories.

Putting a costume together doesn't have to cost a lot of money, simply go out antiquing and do your own thing. Go to the clothing sections of thrift stores, and look for beaded or sequined gowns. Any era of vintage clothing can pass, just make sure the outfit is tight fitting to accentuate your curves. If you don't have curves, sew a little padding here and there within the dress. Look for vintage jewelry, feathers, hats; anything that can be built up to create a grand costume. Once you have all the frocks and feathers, put them all together and create magic.
