It's about that time of year, and lucky parents are planning their child's graduation, down to the invitations. If you're a diy (do it yourself) kind of person, you might want to make your own homemade graduation invitations.

I've done other articles on creating invitations, and the principle isn't that much different for graduation invitations. The difference (if you've read my other articles) is that graduation is a time of ceremony, and typically calls for classier materials.

I'm going to start with basic invitation assembly for a make your own graduation invitation. You need two sheets of paper, one smaller than the other and easy to write/print on. You'll also need something to anchor the information sheet to the accent/background sheet. Many people use ribbons, others use glue or thread.

For basic make your own graduation invitation assembly, I'd suggest a heavier weight paper or pre-printed papers for the top sheet, as well as heavier weight paper for the bottom, accent sheet of paper. You might also want to consider tissue paper over the front of the top sheet, if you've used a type of print that might smudge or get damaged. This would be particularly important if you've used calligraphy for your graduation invitation, which is more nice touch than necessity.

For ribbon choices, you can look at satin or velvet, possibly silk. Something that feels and looks good and goes with the theme of your graduation invitation. You can even design your graduation invitations in the colors of your child's school.

When choosing your own materials, it's easy to make your own graduation invitation that looks better than most store purchased options because you control the quality of your materials, as well as the colors.

If you're particularly crafty, as I am, you can even make your own paper. If you'd like instructions on how to do this for a graduation invitation or any other occasion, I can write an article on that too.

The best things about make your own invitations, for graduation or any other occasion, is that they'll be unique, and generate interest in your function. When you're competing with other members of a graduating class, this can ensure attendance at your event over others. Regardless, when people realize your graduation invitation is homemade, it's certainly going to make a splash, and then you get to choose whether to share your knowledge or sit back and smile knowing that they think it's much harder than it really is. Enjoy your party, and congratulations on having a graduate!
