Materials: Spray Bottle with Water
Sandpaper (course sandpaper is suggested)
Basic Denim Jeans
Crayon (any color will due)
Step 1: The first thing you want to do is get all of your supplies in order meaning in front of you. Once you have all the basic materials you will need, you must first decide what pattern of fade you want on your jeans. If you have no idea what pattern you want, look at the spots on your store bought faded jeans and follow the same pattern.
Step 2: Take the crayon and mark the areas you want faded by pressing the crayon down and scribbling hard across the denim. If you wish to have a scribbling pattern, scribble the crayon back and forth horizontally until some of the crayon still remains on the denim. You can make the spots you want anywhere on the pants, even the back. I suggest running the crayon across the mid thigh part of the jeans in both the front and back to give it that "splash fade" effect.
Step 3: The next step you must take is enhancing the faded effect to the denim. Grab the sandpaper and run it back and forth across all the spots you marked with the crayon. As you are sanding the pants, take the spray bottle and spray each crayon marked section as you go. If you're looking to get the faded look plus the "holey" look, scrub hard with the sandpaper until you get the desired effect you're looking for.
Step 4: One of the last steps to completing this project is to wash the denim jeans. Before you put the jeans in the washer set the water on cold and turn the denim inside out. It's suggested that you use two or three wash cycles before removing the pants from the washer.
Step 5: Once you've finished the washing process, put the denim jeans in the dryer on tumble dry. Let the stay in the dryer until they are completely dry before removing them. Once you remove them, turn them back the right way and see the pricey set of jeans you created for free!
