Fairy wings are pretty much an essential for every little girl's dress-up box. They can be made fairly easily and cheaply.

You will need:

Strong tape

Craft wire between 1 and 2 metres depending on the size of the fairy.

A pair of white tights

Scissors

Wire cutters

Needle

Thread

Ribbons (wide)

Sequins

Fabric (optional)

Glitter glue or glitter and glue.

Elastic

Step 1: Make a circle with the wire and tape it securely together, Twist the shape into a figure of 8. You can leave the wings round or shape them into points at the top and bottom.

Step 2: Tape the centre of the figure of 8 together. Cut the legs from a pair of tights. Pull one leg of the tights over each of the wings, secure in the middle of the 8 shape. You can secure with a small amount of tape and hide it with ribbons later.

Step 3: If you are using fabric, cut it into small squares and stitch to the centre of the 8 shape. Take the ribbon fold it in half lengthways over the frame and stitch in the middle. If you don't want to cover the entire frame of the wings, simply cut the ribbon into strip and attach it in the middle of the wings to cover the join.

Step 4: Make a pattern on the tights fabric with the glitter glue, if you don't have glitter glue, simply make a pattern with the glue and sprinkle glitter over it.

Stick the sequins on in a pattern or in random places.

Step 5: When the glue is dry, stitch the elastic in loops to the centre of the 8 shape.
