How to Make Your Own Felt Covered Glasses Case

Many cases for glasses can be very costly and hard to find. On top of that, most people would love to have more than one case. When you need glasses for driving and reading, you'll usually want to have one case in the house and one case in your car. Therefore, making your own case would be an easy solution, and it would save you from having to purchase an expensive case from your local eye glass store.

You only need a few materials to make your own glasses case, which can cost less than $5. On top of the low price, the project should only take you 30 minutes or less to complete.

You will most likely need to visit your local craft store to get the materials you need to make your case. Here's what you'll need:

1. 1 piece of felt, unless you'd like to add some colorful shapes, designs, or letters to your case. If you would like to add designs, get a couple of different colored pieces of felt as well.

2. Embroidery thread in the color you choose

3. A needle with a large eye

Instructions on making your own case:

Step 1: Begin by taking your piece of felt, and cutting a rounded rectangular shape out, that measures 4 inches, by 6 inches.

Step 2: If you want to put some shapes on your case, or even your name, you'll need to trace them on the other pieces of felt, and cut them out. After you've cut the shapes or letters out, carefully sew them on to the bottom half of your main piece of felt. Make sure when you are sewing it on, you keep in mind that the longest part of the felt will be folded in half to create the case. Therefore, make sure whatever shapes you sew on, will be see on the front of the case.

Step 3: At this point, all that is left if folding the main piece of felt in half (make sure the longest side is the part being folded over in order to fit the glasses). You might want to pin the sides together to make sewing easier.

Step 4: Taking your embroidery thread, carefully stitch the open side of your case shut, leaving the top part open for your glasses. The best stitch to use is the "over - under" stitch. Puncture the needle through the felt, bring the embroidery over the top of the case and re-puncture in the same spot again, but a few centimeters to the side of the first stitch.

After this quick and inexpensive project, you will have a great glasses case which will keep your glasses safe for years to come. This project is also a great idea for a gift to give someone. If you're on a tight budget and are looking for a DIY project, try making this great case for any friend or family member. There's nothing better than a personalized and custom made gift.
