How to Make Your Own Fortune Cookies and Write Fortunes

C.B.
Homemade fortune cookies are fun to make, and taste good too. The fun part about this is you get to write your own unique fortunes! These fortune cookies taste way better than any store brand, and also save you a little money. They are an easy to make treat, that call for no extra trips to the grocery store to make them! They are made with ordinary ingredients that you probably have lying around in your kitchen cabinet. This recipe comes in handy for special occasions, such as birthday parties, dinner parties, Baby showers, weddings, etc.

Ingredients:
1 egg white
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
1/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/8 tsp pure almond extract
1 1/2 tbsp. vegetable oil.
2 teaspoons water.

Oven Temp: 300 F.

Dishes Needed: Wooden spoon, Two medium sized bowls, and a 9 x 13 baking sheet.

Write your fortunes before cooking:
You want to write your fortunes onto pieces of paper that are 3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. Get creative with the fortunes. Write wise or funny fortunes, and be sure you write every one a good one! Examples: -Your principles mean more to you than money or success. -You will be one of the greatest lottery ticket winners. -Your secret admirer will soon appear.

1) Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease the baking sheet so the cookies do not stick! (A 9 x 13 baking sheet is suggested)

Combine egg white & vanilla extract, vegetable oil, and almond extract into a medium size bowl. Beat this mixture lightly.

2) Pour flour, cornstarch, salt, and sugar into a separate empty bowl. Then stir the water in to this mixture.

3) Add this mixture to the egg white mixture until the batter is nice and smooth. Make sure it's not runny, but just right, to where it drops easily off of your spoon.

*You can also add food coloring dye to the fortune cookie batter to give it a unique color! 1/3 teaspoon of dye should do the trick.

4) Place one table spoon of batter at a time onto the cookie sheet, spacing them 2 1/2 inches apart. Lightly tilt the cookie sheet so it makes the batter form a circle (which should be 3 1/2 inches wide). Bake until edges of the cookie turn golden brown. This should take about 12 minutes.

5) Remove one cookie at a time, placing a fortune in each one, and folding in half. To give it that "Fortune cookie look" Fold them over the handle of the wooden spoon, or over the rim of a cup. *Try to work at a fast pace when doing this, so that way the cookies don't become stiff before you shape them.

*You can do so many things with fortune cookies, and you can make them in so many flavors. You can even dip them in chocolate for a great taste that chocoholics will love!
