How to Make Your Own Glitter Prom Hair Accessories

Ambrosia Jefferson
Prom can be expensive enough without thinking about what you are going to do to accessorize your hair. Some of the worry can be taken out of that by making your own hair accessories. The best thing about that is you can add your own flare, match your dress and save some money.

Here are some things you will need to make your own hair accessories. You can vary them depending on what your own personal style is and what your dress looks like.

Materials:

Bobby Pins small or large
Plain Hair Clips
Fine Gauge Wire
Gems/Rhinestones
Hot Glue
Old Jewelry

What to do:

If you want to make a simple beaded jewel pin here is what you do. Make a twist loop on the end of the fine gauge wire. Slip it onto the bobby pin size of your choice. Place a bead on the wire and loop it once around the bobby pin. Continue doing this until the whole pin is covered just the way you want it. Twist loop and secure the end of the wire. Make as many of these as you like to add some glitter to your up do.

Dressing up Silver clips is easy too and makes a pretty way to sweep back long bangs. Select the pretty bauble you want to use for this, Rhinestones work fantastically, but any kind of piece will work as long as it can be secured. Plug in your hot glue gun and organize how you want your rhinestones to look on the clip. Once the hot glue is ready to go pick up your pieces and place a small bit of hot glue on the back being careful not to add too much so it does not ooze over. Secure the rhinestone or gem you have chosen to the clip.

For an added bit of class and style on the silver clips, you can take some old pieces of vintage jewelry and secure them the same way you would the rhinestones with the glue gun. Using pieces of old vintage jewelry not only brings new life to an old piece and recycles but it gives your pieces a bit of history.

Prom is a special day for any young Lady in High school but it does not have to break the bank. These are just two great ideas for making your own accessories. You can make everything from your own necklaces to your own bracelets, even hot glue some rhinestones to your shoe straps for some added glitter. The night is yours make it special.
