How to Make Your Own Greeting Card Artwork

Mandy Hill
It is not necessary to spend a lot of money to get high quality artwork for your home. All it takes is a few dollars and a creative and willing mind. Making framed artwork is a simple, rewarding project that will result in something you will be proud to display in your home. It is very inexpensive, so anyone can do it with a little creativity! The artwork I will cover today is greeting card artwork. It is a simple project that is fun to do alone, in groups, or with your kids. Sometimes it is hard to find uses for greeting cards you don't want to get rid of. By creating art with them, you are putting them to use instead of leaving them in a box under your bed. Let's go over how to make a meaningful piece of art using greeting cards.

Here are some objects you will need to get started:

1. Old greeting cards (any type will do)

2. Glue or glue sticks (rubber cement will also work, just be careful)

3. Inexpensive frame, any size (this can be purchased at Wal-Mart for 4. (optional) Stickers for extra decoration

First, find greeting cards with colors that will compliment each other. Any greeting card will do. For example, Christmas cards can be combined for beautiful art to display during the holiday season. You can even use the words in the greeting cards to make your own phrases. Next, simply cut the cards into whatever combination you would like, and glue them together. Any design will do, some abstract art doesn't even need a theme. You can even make the pieces fit into a certain shape, like an animal or object. Sometimes it is easier to have a piece of paper or cardstock cut into the size of the frame to use as a guide. Once you have a collage made from the pieces of greeting cards, all you have to do is size them to fit the frame. Once you have them how you want them, all you need to do glue them to your guide, or simply use a paint brush to spread clear glue over the top of the pieces. Sometimes it is easier to just glue the pieces one by one. Last, just let it dry. Now all you have to do is find a place on your wall for your new creation! There is no end to the designs you can make using this technique, just use your imagination!
