Learning How to Make Jewelry: Jewelry Kits
Jewelry kits serve as a great introduction to the craft. They contain everything that you need to make a few pieces of jewelry, and instructions for how to use them. When you are looking for a jewelry making kit, here is a list of what you need: findings (clasps, crimping beads, wire), beads to string, and crimping pliers to finish off the project. You will string the beads and add a crimping bead as the final bead on each end. Then you loop your wire through the loop of your clasp and back through the final crimping bead. The crimping pliers are used to bend this bead into a shape that will hold everything together. This basic method can be used to make bracelets, necklaces, and dangle earrings.
Learning How to Make Jewelry: Stringing Long Necklaces
This method of making jewelry is fun for children and teens as well as adults. You need black crochet thread, which is thicker than regular thread, or beading cord. I buy crochet thread because it is cheap and you get a lot for your money. Then, you just need beads that have large holes for stringing. The basic concept is to tie a knot, add a bead, and tie another knot, leaving as much space between beads as you want. Make the necklace long enough to wrap around your neck a few times. The final step is to knot the two ends together to finish the necklace. This method can be a creative way of making jewelry, since you can use any number of cords. If you use three, tie the knot, and have one cord go through the bead, and two go around the outside. Knot the other side. This frames each bead between two cords, adding an artistic touch. You can use any number of color combinations, beads, and threads. It is an easy way to start making your own jewelry.
There are many reasons you might want to learn to make your own jewelry. It is a great creative outlet, and is fun as well. Don't be overwhelmed by all of the products and choices available. Try these simple jewelry making techniques to get started today!

Post a CommentWe love jewelry making. My own daughters do it. At work, we teach the kids juvenile offenders how to do it too.
My dad used to make jewelry (among the many other things he did for short periods of time before moving on to toher things!) Brings back memories.
