Here are a list of things that you will need to do a check on starting with brake fluid, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, windshield wiper fluid, belt check, tires and tire air pressure, exterior light bulbs, battery post, and the PVC valve. Don't get discourage, it might sound like alot to keep up with but actually it's very simple and worth it. All you need to do is keep this list and use it as a check list to check each thing off as you go. Soon you will see just how simple it really is and just how much money you can save. A few supplies and a little bit of your time is priceless when it comes to keeping yourself, family, and friend's safe from road break downs causing much frustration, delays, and possibly a tow bill. So briefly you can check the level of brake fluid and bring it up to the correct level. Check the anti freeze level when the vehicle is cold and not running. Check the power steering level and also check the washer fluid level and bring it up to level.
It is also a good idea to check the PVC valve for unnecessary oil build up and air blockages in most cases it should be located on the valve cover. You may want to change the air filter if you have not changed it anytime since your last car service, you will be checking for dirt build up, if it is dirty you should replace it. Next check the oil level if you have not had your oil changed within the last 3,000 miles, you should consider changing it which is really simple. Simply get the specified oil and oil filter that you will need to put in your vehicle. While the engine is cold remove the oil plug slowly this should be located on oil pan. Drain all the oil out and remove the old oil filter. Insert the oil plug back in but don't over tighten. Hand tighten the new filter back onto the engine. Pour the specified amount of oil back into the engine. Start engine after the oil level appears to be at the full level. Allow engine to run for about 5 minutes.
Chock all the wheels and shift to neutral and check the transmission fluid level. Also look to make sure the color is not a brownish burnt look. Turn vehicle off and allow it to sit for 1 minutes and check the oil level again. It's also a good habit to take a good look at your belts for cracks or excessive play(slack). In most cases belts should not have more than 1/4 inch middle way the span distance. Take a look at your battery post to make sure that are not corrupt with corrosion. You also can take a look at the windshield wipers, this don't have to be done but you can see if the rubber is still in proper condition. Check all the tires for cuts, punctures, knots and air pressure. Believe it or not if you do all I have said then you will have just completed your own full service on your vehicle saving you lots of money. The neat thing about auto service is that it be much more easier the next around.
