How to Make Your Own Radio Station

Brooke Coin
Do you ever wish the radio station you listen to at work only played the music you liked? Or didn't repeat the same song over and over again, like so many radio programs do? Thanks to internet sites like Pandora, that is now actually possible.

After registering, which is only takes a few minutes, and is completely free, a user can pick an artist they like, and Pandora creates a station just for them. The music that is played is based on over 400 criteria, but basically Pandora plays songs that are similar in style, sound and instrumental components as the music made by the artist originally inputted. Users are asked to provide feedback, by giving a thumbs up or thumbs down to each track that is played. If a song gets a thumbs down, Pandora takes it out of the rotation and it will not be played again unless the user manually adds it back in.

Each account is allowed to create a number of different stations, one for every artist that appeals to you. So if one day you're in the mood for songs that are like Nickelback and the next you're in a Kelly Clarkson frame of mind, Pandora can accommodate you.

Pandora also gives their users the opportunity to purchase tracks they really like for download, through Amazon or I Tunes.

Pandora has become especially popular with I Phone and I Touch users Over 2 million users have downloaded the free app since it became available in July of 2008. For I Phone users Pandora offers two subscription plans, one for free, that is ad supported, and an ad free fee based subscription.

Although it began as a worldwide service, Pandora is only available in the United States at the moment, because of difficulties with international copyright laws, and unfortunately according to some sources that may end up putting the company out of business, which is why the company is marketing so heavily to potential paying customers.
