How to Make Your Own Star Wars Birthday Party Invitations

Although Star Wars themed birthday party invitations can be found for sale in stores, it is easy to make your own at home, and they will be far more unique and less expensive, in addition to being able to customize the invitations with your child's favorite themes and characters.

Star Wars Birthday Party Invitations: Supplies and Materials

To make your own Star Wars birthday party invitations, you will want a base of black paper of a somewhat heavy weight, along with envelopes that the cards will fit into (either folded or flat, depending on your design preference).

As far as other items go, some paper of various colors (gray, red, green, and blue will work well for fashioning spaceships and light sabers) will be essential for making embellishments. You will also need a pair of scissors and a glue stick.

Star Wars Birthday Party Invitations: Character-Themed Invitations

To make a character-themed invitation, you will want to find a good color photo of the character online and print out one for each invitation. Then cut out the character and glue him or her to the front of the invitation before proceeding with the next steps.

Star Wars Birthday Party Invitations: Light Sabers and Spaceships

Whether or not you have a Star Wars character on the front of the birthday party invitation, you will want to create a space scene by making small light saber and spaceship cutouts. You can use a stencil if you want them to be uniform, but it is a lot easier to just cut them out without worrying about whether they all look exactly the same.

Light sabers are very simple, consisting of just a long bar of colored "light" and a gray handle on the end. Spaceships can be a little more complicated, but a large gray ship with windows drawn onto it will be sufficient, taking care to make a certain kind of ship if your child wants one.

Star Wars Birthday Party Invitations: Party Information

The last step is to put the birthday party information somewhere on the invitation. If you would like to write it by hand, you can either glue on a white piece of paper and write in a dark color, or buy a silver or white pen and write directly on the black paper. Sharpie makes great silver pens with relatively fine points, which would work well for this.

The other option is to type the party information in a word processing program and print it onto paper that you can then glue on the invitation. This will take less time, although the handwritten one would probably look better, and might be faster if you are just making a few invitations.
