The famous World Cup event is just around the corner. If you're a dedicated fan who has been waiting anxiously for the once every four years event, you should consider planning a party to celebrate. The World Cup is being held in South Africa this year and kicks off in June and ends in July. A special touch for your party would be to make your own decorations. This article will give you step by step instructions on how you can make your own World Cup decorations.

How to Make Your Own World Cup Party Decorations #1: Soccer Field Ceiling Decoration

If you have a ceiling that you can easily reach by standing on a chair, then make a soccer field decoration to hang up. It's easier then you think.

What you'll need:

Green tablecloth (Plastic or fabric. You can probably find a plastic green tablecloth at a dollar store. Fabric ones will be more costly unless you can find one at a second hand store)

Tape or glue (use tape or glue for a plastic tablecloth but glue is the only thing suitable for a fabric one)

White poster board (3 to 4 pieces)

Scissors

Tacks

Black marker

White fabric puffy paint (Optional. Use with a fabric tablecloth)

Putting it together:

First you'll want to cut a large soccer ball from one of the pieces of white poster board. Color it in with your black marker to make it look like a soccer ball. Now use the rest of the poster board to cut out lines that will be the lines on a soccer field as well as pieces for goal cages.

If you are using fabric paint instead of white poster board for the soccer lines and cages, you'll want to lay your tablecloth flat and carefully draw the lines on with the paint. Let dry before you move on to the next step.

The pieces of the white poster board for the soccer lines and the soccer ball itself can be glued and taped onto your plastic table cloth. For cloth, glue the soccer ball on your tablecloth. Arrange the pieces how you see fit. Make it look like a game is going on. If you want to go the extra effort, cut out players, otherwise just leave it look like it's ready for a game.

To hang it on the ceiling, use tacks or tape. It depends on what kind of ceiling you have and if you want little holes in your ceiling. If you are worried about little holes, you can use plastic after the party to cover them up.

How to Make Your Own World Cup Party Decorations #2: Soccer Ball

World Cup is all about soccer so it makes sense to have lots of soccer ball decorations around. This decorating idea will take you very little time.

What you'll need:

Several sheets of white poster board (depending on how many balls you want to hang around)

Black marker, black construction paper or black paint

Scissors

Tape

Putting it together:

Cut large circles out of our poster board. Draw the pattern for the soccer ball with a black pen and either fill it in with the pen or cut out black construction paper and tape/glue it on. If you use paint, make sure that you give it ample time to dry.

When your decoration is finished, hang the soccer balls several places around your home. On the front door, on the walls where the party is going to be at, etc.

How to Make Your Own World Cup Party Decorations #3: Flag Sign

World Cup is about international players coming together to complete from all over the world. Make a sign that will reflect that and stand out at your party.

What you'll need:

Yellow or green poster board

Flag Strand (like the one found here)

Glue

Markers

Scissors

Putting it together:

Lay your poster board on a flat surface (such as a table). Cut your flag strand apart so that they are all separate pieces.

Carefully glue the flags along all the edges of the poster board, making sure to space them out so each side will have a certain number of flags. Let dry.

Take your markers and draw WORLD CUP at the top and then 2010 in the middle and SOUTH AFRICA at the bottom. Draw a couple of soccer balls around the words you've written. You can hang it up on a wall or doorway with tape or tacks.
