Tips and a Rundown on Ski Vacation Packing Necessities

Packing for a ski vacation can be a bit intimidating, as a skiing vacation requires a lot of sport equipment as well as protective clothing and gear to make the vacation safe and enjoyable. The equipment takes up a lot of space and the clothing is going to be bulky, so an investment in quality bags is a must. Past that, one merely has to compartmentalize their ski vacation necessities to ensure nothing is left behind.

Ski Vacation Clothing Necessities

As always, a vacationer needs multiple pairs of clean underwear, and since this is a skiing vacation more underwear than normal is needed. Be sure to pack multiple sets of long underwear and athletic base layers that feature moisture wicking technology. Skiing can work up a sweat, and the further the moisture is from the skin, the better off a body will be. On top of the base layers, a regular sweater or sweatshirt (or two) per day will suffice followed by a lighter jacket for added warmth as well as gloves or mittens. The final layer is the official pair of ski pants and the official ski jacket. Keep the singular layers near the top of your clothing bags and alternate the long underwear, regular underwear, and sweaters.

Ski Vacation Personal Care Necessities

It is important when going on a ski vacation not to overlook the need for some additional skin care products. Invest in sunscreen, heavy duty moisturizing lotion, and plenty of protective lip balm. If traveling by air, pick up several 1 ounce tubes of each of these all important products and place them in a one quart Ziploc bag for security screening.

Ski Equipment and Accessory Necessities

Ski specific accessories go past the basic warm layers described above in general clothing and include neck warming wraps, extra mittens and gloves, ski hats, extra socks, a helmet (if desired), and protective goggles. Be sure to pack a pair of heavy duty but comfortable boots for the slope and a lighter pair for casual walking in the snow.

For the ski enthusiast who wishes to use their own equipment instead of renting, traveling presents additional packing needs! It is a good idea to purchase a ski specific travel bag to carry personal skis and poles as they will receive greater protection within a specialty bag. Specialty bags can also be purchased to hold the ski boots mentioned above.

Keeping travel suitcases and bags compartmentalized ensures that passing through airport security will be an easy and swift process, so the investment will pay off in both protection for the equipment and also time saved.

These tips should help any traveler be ready to pack for their next ski vacation. Be sure to do a final checklist inspection before taking off for the holiday as anything needed is sure to cost double in a destination town.
