Tips on Packing when Heading to Europe

Planning for a long trip to Europe to explore and experience the world? There are a few things you should keep in mind prior to travel. Packing can be extremely easy or difficult, you are the decider. Packing for men, generally, is easier than packing for women. Obviously there are hair care products, cosmetics, brushes, etc. that women must carry with them. Men can have a lot to pack as well, but generally speaking, they pack less. However, the point is not to compare packing between men and women, but to give advice on how to properly pack for a long trip to Europe.

I would recommend you take one suitcase and a carry-on bag when you leave. The reason for this is that most airliners now days charge extra for more than one piece of checked-in luggage. Of course, it saves you the hassle of lugging around 3 suitcases as well. There is a lot of public transportation in Europe, some of the best in the world, so therefore you may be travelling on trains and buses quite frequently and having 3 suitcases can be a challenge. If you are on a European trip to explore Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France, etc., then I would strongly advise you take only one piece of luggage. It can be very difficult to carry more than one piece of luggage, especially if you are switching trains quite often to get to different cities. Who wants to run around the train station with 3 pieces of luggage? The train stations also offer a locker service where you can pay per day and keep your bags safe and secure.

Bring fewer clothes and take advantage of local Laundromats or hotel laundry services. Brining 20 outfits can fill up a suitcase VERY fast. If you plan on bringing things back with you, then I recommend purchasing a duffel bag while in Europe and filling it with your purchases. You may have to pay extra, but it beats lugging around another luggage case and paying twice to have it checked-in. Call or visit your airliners website and check to see what their requirements are for luggage. This will give you a head start in packing and figuring out what you are able to bring in your carry-on and checked-in baggage. If you plan on travelling via a smaller airliner service such as EasyJet, then you do not want to have more than one checked bag. Their fees are outrageously high and will quickly drain your wallet if you are not careful and have more than one bag to check in.
