How to Pack for a Trip to Las Vegas
Getting Packed for a Trip to Las Vegas Can Be Simple If You Develop and Save a Master List of What You Need to Take.
According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors' Authority (2009), "In 2009, visitors stayed an average of 3.6 nights and 4.6 days in Las Vegas-consistent with past averages." So, f or the purpose of this article, let's assume you will be staying 4 nights. Keep in mind some clothing items can be worn more than once, if necessary. It is best to pack light when traveling. In fact, most people visiting Las Vegas should be able to fit everything they need in a rolling flight bag that can be carried on, plus another smaller carry-on bag.
Consider the activities you will be doing while in Las Vegas. Many Vegas visitors spend much of their time in casinos, restaurants, shopping malls, and museums and might attend one show. If that description of activities fits what you do when you go to Las Vegas, then the sample master list will be all you will need. However, if you add activities like hiking and nightclubbing, you will need to adjust your packing for Las Vegas accordingly.

Clothing to Pack for your Trip to Las Vegas
If you go to one or two shows while in Las Vegas, be sure to pack one dressy outfit. For women, the outfit might be a dress with a jacket and heels or slacks with a blouse, blazer and heels. Only one dressy outfit is necessary for two Las Vegas shows. Men will need casual slacks and shorts with a mix of long-and short-sleeved shirts.
If you spend most of your days and evenings in casinos and museums, then casual dress is pretty much all you need for your Las Vegas trip. If you prefer to dress up in the evenings for dinner and/or a show, you will want to pack a couple of dressy outfits.
That being decided, think about using just one main color to select accompanying separates to coordinate. Plus, you will only need to take one pair of nice shoes if you stay within a particular color scheme when packing for Las Vegas.
For example, pick a black dress as your "dressy" item. Then, select a blazer and a sweater which could be worn with the dress. Take a couple of pairs of black slacks that will also coordinate with the blazer and sweater. Pick solid-color tops and blouses that can be switched out with the blazer, sweater and pants. Here's a list of clothing items to include in your master packing list for Las Vegas
Underwear-total should equal the number of days you will be there + 2 extra
3 Pairs of casual slacks and shorts in black or navy (not including what you wear on the plane)
2 White short-sleeved tops
1 White long-sleeved blouse
1 casual jacket/blazer
1 Zip-up or Button-up Sweater (or a pull-over, if you prefer)
2 Casual tops/blouses/tunics to wear with the slacks
1 Pair of dressy but comfortable low heels
1 Pair of comfortable walking shoes-it's best to wear them on the plane so they don't have to be packed
1 Comfortable pair of sandals, if you prefer them over walking shoes (omit these shoes, if possible)
Socks-One pair for each day to be worn with your tennis shoes
2 Scarves to jazz up your outfits
2 Nighties or sets of PJs-1 for sleeping and 1 to wear while hanging out in the hotel room
Miscellaneous Items to Pack/Prepare for your Trip to Las Vegas
Basic silver and gold earrings and necklaces (to accessorize with your outfits)
Swim suit or swim trunks and flip-flops (if you plan to take a dip in the hotel pool)
Curling iron or curling brush (if required)
Load 2 new movies on your iPhone, iPod, or iTouch
The book you are currently reading or your iPad (to keep busy while traveling/resting at the hotel)
Cash, 1 major credit card and travelers' checks (if you use them)
Your Drivers' License or Identification card and flight itineraries with tickets/boarding passes to Vegas
Use this sample list as a starting point to develop your own master packing list for your trip to Las Vegas. After you design your own list, type it up and store it on your computer. You can refer to it when traveling to Las Vegas in the future.
From time to time, you will most likely need to update your packing list, omitting or adding items as you see necessary. When you begin to use your list for what to pack on a trip to Las Vegas, you will wonder how you ever got along without it.
