How to Pack for a Vacation with Your Child

Jill Veskco
Taking family vacations can be fun for the whole family. Kids get to misbehave, while adults sit back and relax. Depending upon where you take the kids, packing for them is the hardest part. Here is a guideline to how to pack for kids when going on vacation.

When traveling with kids you always have to remember to pack extra. No matter what kids are doing, they always manage to get everything dirty. When packing for kids you have to remember to pack the necessary amount of clothes for the amount of time you'll be gone, but also pack extra shirts, shoes, shorts, and underwear. Kids will manage to go through all articles of clothes while on vacation. It's also important to pack the correct shoes for kids as well. If you're going to the beach, you need to remember to pack kids water shoes so they can walk on the hot sand. The water shoes will basically be worn the entire trip if you go to the beach. The kids can wear them to the beach, while on the beach, and in the water. This will help kids be more activate while at the beach.

Another important item to pack if your family is heading to the beach or anywhere that may have a lot of sun, you need to pack kids sunblock. Kids skin is very sensitive and can burn easily when traveling from one to place to another. Be sure to grab the highest SPF as possible so your child stays safe. Sunblock is very important, but also any medicine in case something should happen. It's always a good idea to carry children's Tylenol because it can relieve pain and reduce fever.

Packing for kids not only includes extra clothing items, but also bringing along their favorite toy or stuffed animal. Many times on trips, kids don't have enough time to take naps and so they begin to get cranky. They'll start screaming and crying until they get something they're familiar with like their favorite stuffed animal. It's important you remember this because it could be the only thing that will calm them down. Besides having a favorite toy to calm them down, it will also make sleeping at night easier for them. Kids require certain things to help them settle down and fall asleep.

If your kids aren't trained yet to drink from their own cups, be sure to pack their drinking cups. This will help you because you can fill their drinks before you head on the road and won't need to worry about them fussing. Packing these extra items help kids adjust to their current surroundings. If your kids aren't toilet trained you will also need to pack plenty of diapers and wipes, along with the changing bag. These small items are very important items in keeping the kid clean and happy.

Although this may not seem like a lot of work, for most parents it is. You not only have to worry about yourself, but also the needs of your children. When packing for your next vacation, be sure to keep these items in mind, so you're vacation can be stress free.
