How to Pack for a Warm Climate Destination

If you're used to the cold winters of New England and you're finally getting a chance to escape this winter to visit a warm climate, such as Southern California, Arizona, Texas or Florida, you'll need to keep in mind that changing your apparel for this vacation will be a necessity. You definitely can't visit a southern state in the winter wearing your down winter jacket, long underwear, ski hat and wool gloves. You'll need to dig out your summer wear, and remember to shed the layers.

Even in the South, you can never tell what the temperature change might be. You can rightfully assume that it will be warmer from you are coming from, but the weather fluctuates down there just the same as up here. Therefore, you won't want to leave yourself stranded with just a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. If you're visiting a desert area, you can be assured that in the winter months, the temperatures are still soaring in the mid 80's-90's, but at night the temperatures can actually drop 30-40 degrees, which can leave you pretty cold if you didn't bring a long sleeve shirt or a light jacket.

Layers are the key ingredient to making sure you have all of the clothing necessities for your trip to a warm climate. You'll want to pack some shorts, pants, light short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, a light jacket, and you definitely don't want to forget your bathing suit. Layers will help you when you the temperature changes in the morning or at sunset with always having something to put on over your clothes, or something to take off that's over your clothes. It's the same when you're in the cold, but the layers should be a lot lighter.

If you've run into a problem where you've packed your summer clothes away for the season, and you have nothing to bring with you, you might need to do a little vacation shopping. Offhand you'll want to do this before arriving at your vacation destination. Shopping on site such as overstock.com, which will always have all four seasons worth of different clothes, Amazon.com and even target.com will always have what you need. Don't forget to find you're sunglasses, sun visor or beach hat, and sunscreen to protect you for the much stronger sun you'll find in your warm destination.

So, keep your winter gear safe and sound at home and pack the lighter clothes to keep you comfortable on your much needed vacation.
