How to Package & Ship Items

If you have ever been interested in selling items online then you may have ran into a slight conflict regarding shipment of said item. Most casual citizens today are unaware of the work behind packaging, boxing, and shipping the final product. This is usually a temporary roadblock for most people but it easily be avoided by reading this article. I will discuss the generic techniques for shipping your object by using the United States Postal Service. Although this article only discusses services with USPS, the information here can be applied to any other mailing service.

Your first step in preparing your shipment is finding a proper box or envelope to place your object inside. USPS provides free shipping materials, you can either order them online or get them right from your local post office.

Once you have your shipping supplies, you will need to package your item securely inside it. Be sure to use various padding and soft material to protect your product. The package will jump around a bit while in transit so use leftover news papers and styrofoam if available. Once finished packing, you will want to securely seal the box using tape. Regular scotch tape will do the job but if you want to go the extra mile then you should consider using construction grade tape. Do not use duct tape, it makes the package look poorly packaged and makes the seller look bad.

The way your item is packaged says a lot about a company or individual, so it is important to package it well and keep it clean cut. The packaging will reflect your company's reputation and help you maintain business.

Once you have finished packaging your item and sealed up the box, you will need a postage stamp. You can actually go directly online to the USPS website and purchase & print out a postage stamp and slap it right on your package and you are all set to drop it off at the post office. Alternatively you can just take the package to the post office and pay for a postage stamp there. I recommend grabbing it from online since it saves time. You buy the postage stamp, print it out, tape it on, and then just drop the box off at the post office.

In conclusion, the package's trip can be a rough one and it is important to use proper packaging material such as styrofoam & substitutes like news paper. Package it well, seal it neat, and you are off giving yourself a good reputation already.
