Painting a chalk board wall in your kitchen is an awesome way to add a custom touch on a small budget. Your chalk board accent wall will customize your kitchen, add visual interest in a dull space, and will be useful as well!

Where to Paint the Chalk Board Wall in Your Kitchen

When you walk in your kitchen, which is the first wall you see? Now, look to the wall to the left of that. This wall is perfect for an accent wall because it is visual not the first thing you see. This way your chalkboard accent wall will not take over your kitchen.

Another approach is to look for the smallest wall in your kitchen. It really makes a bold statement to paint the whole wall, but you do not want to paint the largest wall black or green with chalkboard paint.

Another final option is to choose the wall closest to the fridge or even the phone. This makes it easy to jot down grocery lists and phone messages!

How to Paint the Chalk Board Wall in Your Kitchen

Take a trip to the local home imporvemtn store. You want to look for cans of chalk board paint. IN most cases it will be green or black, although as chalkboard paint becomes more popular, they are making more colors.

Now, take a look at the instructions. In many cases you should use a paint brush with bristles or a foam rolling paint brush. See which your product takes.

Finally, read how many square feet the can of paint will cover. You will be surprised how quickly it will go.

Use painters tape to tape off all four sides of the accent wall in your kitchen. Start applying the chalkboard paint according to your product's directions.

How to Customize the Chalk Board Wall

Now, for the real fun! Customizing your chalk board accent wall is what will really make it stand out.

One of my favorite ways to customize your accent wall list to add a stainless steel shelf or row of hooks. Attach this about four feet up from the ground. Now, hang cups of chalk on the hooks! Too cute!

Another fun idea is to add frames to the wall. The kids can draw what ever they want inside the frame. Just be sure to hang them without the glass or the back in them! Kids will love this idea.
