How to Paint Floor Tile

RJ Lawrence
Nonporous materials, such as floor tile, are ill-suited for paint. Painting floor tile is not difficult, as long as you prepare the floor tile, using the appropriate techniques. Employ the right techniques when painting floor tile, or the finish will fail.

Required Items

1) Soap
2) Sponge
3) Rags
4) Sandpaper
5) Latex primer
6) Polyester paintbrush
7) Roller
8) Acrylic floor paint

Step 1

Use a soapy sponge to clean the floor tile, as dust inhibits adhesion.

Step 2

;Use damp rags to rinse the floor tile, or primer won't stick.

Step 3

"What Are The Best Fiction Books?"

Thoroughly dry the floor tile with towels.

Step 4

Abrade the floor tile to enhance adhesion. Sand the floor tile until it feels rough. Kingofhowto.com says to sand before you paint floor tile. Skipping this step will cause the floor tile to shed its finish.

Step 5

Use a roller/polyester brush to coat the floor tile with latex primer. Let the floor tile dry for two hours.

Step 6

Use the roller/polyester brush to coat the floor tile with acrylic floor paint. Let the floor tile dry for two hours.

Considerations and Warnings

Use a polyester brush on floor tile, or expect flawed results. Howtodowhatever.com warns to never paint over floor tile, using a nylon brush.

Never prime unabraded floor tile, or flaking will result.

Never paint bare floor tile, or peeling will result.

Step Two seems a little strange: "The best new books you should be reading" It seemed hard to read a new book and paint floor tile...LOL!
