How to Make a Paper Bag Puppet

Juliegirl
Paper bag animal puppets are so fun and are an easy craft to do with the kids. It requires minimal supplies. Most of the items you will need are items you already have in your home. Things you will need are paper lunch bags, scissors, construction paper and glue. For more embellishments, you can have pipe cleaners and fuzzy balls and eyes.

To make a dog paper bag puppet, all you have to do is cut out shapes in the ears, nose, eyes and tongue and then just glue into place. If you have the eyes, then all you need to do is glue them in place. Craft eyes come in all sizes so you can find the right size to fit the paper bag puppet you are making. If you are tight on supplies, simply coloring in the eyes and drawing and coloring in the nose will work just fine. The same concept works for a cat. You can draw and cut out the ears and nose and mouth, and if you have pipe cleaners, you can glue them on as whiskers. If you don't have pipe cleaners simply drawing them on will work fine.

Other animals you can make out of paper lunch bags are pigs, mice, frogs and even raccoons. This craft is so inexpensive and easy it is great for Vacation Bible School, day cares and just to do at home with the kids.

To make the pig puppet you will need pink construction paper and draw and cut out a snout, ears and legs. You can even cut out a curly tail! If you have a pipe cleaner you can make a curly tail out of that and glue or staple it on. Of course when using a stapler an adult will need to do that.

The frog is basically the same way. You will need green construction paper to cut out the arms, legs and eyes. Or use googly eyes if you have them. The arms and legs are little more difficult to do, but really anything your child cuts out for them will work just fine. We are going for fun here, not perfection.

Lunch paper bags come in a wide variety of colors. So, you might even find colors to go with the type of animal puppet you are making. For example, a green bag for the frog, a pink bag for the pig, white or black for the cat, brown for the dog, and so on. Your child's imagination is the only limit! The same goes with pipe cleaners. Usually you can buy all the colors in one pack or you can buy solid colors in a pack.

I would suggest the next time you go into a craft store stock up on the supplies you will need to make the puppets if you don't already have them. Next time you are looking for a fun craft to do, you will have the perfect craft ready!
