How to Make Paper Roses with Crepe Paper or Tissue Paper

Barb Webb
Nothing spells romance like a rose, but paper roses spell eco-friendly and long-lasting elegant home décor.

Crafting paper roses is far easier than you might think. All you need is some crepe or tissue paper, wire, floral tape, and a little patience to create a beautiful rose that will envy its nature counterpart.

Materials:

Crepe Paper or Tissue Paper (pinks, reds, white, yellows, or even blues depending upon your preference for rose color. Dual-sided crepe paper, meaning there are two different colors, one on each side, make more "real" roses.)

Florist Wire or Standard Wire

Green Florist Tape

Instructions:

Cut four two inch by one inch "tear shaped" pieces (pictured) from crepe or tissue paper.

Cut ten two inch by three inch "heart shaped" pieces (pictured) from crepe or tissue paper.

Cut a nine inch length of wire. Wrap wire with a thin layer of florist tape (twist around the wire in a spiral pattern- do not cut strips.)

Secure one "tear shaped" piece to the wire, by wrapping it around the wire and using florist tape to attach.

Overlap the first tear shaped piece with another and secure with florist tape. Repeat with remaining two pieces of florist tape. You should now have the "bud" of the rose.

If the top of the petal shape is not puckered (rounded,) round by gently tugging at the end of the crepe or tissue paper.

Begin overlapping the heart shaped pieces over the tear shaped pieces, securing each with floral tape. Repeat until you have a desired width for your rose. (Note: you may not choose to use all ten pieces, or you may choose to cut additional rose pieces, depending on preference for the size of rose.)

A finished rose is pictured.

Additional Tips:

- Cut green crepe or tissue paper in leaf shapes and secure to the stem with green florist tape, to create leaves for your roses.

- Cut petals (heart-shapes) in different colors to create a funky, cosmic rose.

- Save your tissue paper from holidays to create this craft. Attach roses to presents for the following year to have a "greener" holiday.
