How Parents Can Accept Changing Hairstyle Trends for Tweens and Teens
With Fall and Winter 2010 Trends Emerging, Help Your Child Choose Their Style
Girls' hairstyle choices are definitely wavy this fall. Whether your daughter likes to wear her hair long or she opts for short hair, waves are a must. You can easily be supportive of your daughter's trendy hairstyle choice. If she does not like the trend and wants straight hair, you can tell her how good she looks. If she is worried about not "fitting-in" you can tell her she is starting a new trend of her own.
To see what the hairstyle trends are going to be for your tween or teen, you can look at Disney and Nickelodeon actors and actresses. For example, Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment of Hannah Montana Forever both have long hair. Their hair is usually flowing with loose curls or waves in their hair. The iCarly duo of Miranda Cosgrove and Jennette McCurdy both have waves or loose curls as well. While Miranda Cosgrove's hair is usually a little below the shoulder, she does have curls at the ends and Jennette McCurdy has longer hair with waves or loose curls throughout. Watching the trailers for the new movie "Den Brother", G. Hannelius' hair is a little shorter than these older actresses. Yet, she still wears curls at the bottom.
With the choices for girls' hairstyles, parents can relax and be confident that their daughters choice will not make them cringe. If the parents have boys the hairstyle choices are a different matter. Parents will have to decide whether to help their boys find a cut that is right for them, or give them the choice to choose.
Boys' hairstyle trends for fall and winter seem to be short. Parents, do not let short hair fool you. Your little guy could come home with a mohawk. The upside is he could come home with a nice short style. If you are not with your child when he or she gets their hair cut, try to be supportive of your child but let him or her know that is not the style you want to see them in. If you are with them when they suggest it to the stylist or barber, you may want to put your foot down then. Remember, your child's haircut is a reflection of him or her. Let them know that as well, guide them as best as you can, and then just be there for them.
Some of the hottest boy hairstyles can be seen on the Jonas Brothers. They are all sporting short stylish hair. If your little guy comes home looking good with a clean cut you can be proud of his decision.
Hutch Dano of "Den Brother" also has short hair. The front of his hair is long and may be considered shaggy. This is a really cute look for an older tween/younger teen. As a parent you can be thankful it is not a Mohawk.
When you let your children start making their own decisions, you have to be prepared to accept them. If you are going to let your child choose their own hairstyle, you may want to talk to them about individuality and what they like before sending them off to the hairstylist or barber. As your child gets older, it is important for him or her to make their own decision. You can only help guide them and watch as they blossom into a young adult.
