How to Pass the Craigslist Phone Verification

The Best Kept Secret

K. Amlap
Many of us have tried using a legitimate phone number that does not pass the Craigslist verification system. It is often the result of utilizing a VOIP or other internet-based phone number. Frustration certainly sets in when you cannot post the items or services on Craigslist -- and most of us simply give up on it.

Craigslist does not make it easy to contact them when you are having an issue. In the past, I have used their contact form without ever receiving an answer. However, with some simple online research, I was able to discover the contact information for Craigslist. I felt as if I had won the lottery! I could finally give them a piece of my mind about their inadequate customer service.

As soon as I called the Craigslist phone number, my place in line was announced. I thought I would be on hold for up to an hour, considering the popularity of the site, but I was told by the automated system that I was only fifth place in line. Once I was transferred to a customer service rep, I was greeted by a pleasant person who listened to my problem.

It seemed as though my call was a common occurrence and she told me right away that she would manually verify my phone number for me. Since I had called in with my phone number blocked, she simply asked if she could call me right back to verify that it was a legitimate number. The rep called me and then my number was all set, as it would be automatically be associated with the email address and Craigslist account that I had initially attempted to use it on.

After the manual Craigslist phone number verification, I logged into my Craigslist account and I was able to start posting into the various classified sections immediately. It was nice to know that I could list my item on a website that millions of people use every single day.

I was required to call for a second Craigslist phone number verification because I have two Craigslist accounts, one for personal postings and one for business postings. This time around, a rep required me to call back with my phone number unblocked so that they could see it on their caller ID display. Once I did this, it was manually added to the system. However, when I tried to log into my Craigslist account, it was not verified. I then called back and found out that I would have to clear my cookies in order for it work. I did exactly that and my account was ready to go.

Yes, this doesn't work anymore. There is only email customer service for free accounts now, and they do not ever personally reply to any help requests. They have no interest, evidently, in resolving this issue.

You can buy pre-verified accounts online for about $5-7 for a 3-month usage of the account. If you sell a lot on there, or need access to certain areas, that is probably the best way to go.

Sorry - this information is no good. After trying several times I found they have a brief comment near the end of their recorded message stating they do not handle issues by telephone. As others have already noted, their website links never give you an opportunity to "chat" and only respond with rote answers that don't address the issue. My multiple emails to them only came back with the same pat responses.
