How to Get Past the Weight Loss Plateau

How I Got Rid of Those Last Stubborn Pounds

Emily Placido
It's so frustrating, this diet thing. I have been eating a good, balanced diet and working out almost everyday. I had been doing primarily, pilates, with an occasional ride on the stationary bike. It worked for awhile but then, I stopped losing weight. Actually, it seemed like I was gaining weight. I hate when that happens! Afterwards, I tried all kinds of things. My first instinct was to eat less. Well, that didn't work. I learned that our bodies are machines that need to stay balanced. If we take in less food, our bodies store more fat, in order to maintain energy balance. Eating less is the worst thing to do. Then, I read that you should do strength training to work your muscles. So, I tried lifting weights, but I'm just not disciplined enough to keep at it, the way you're supposed to.

What worked for me was a combination of two simple things. One, I started jogging. It doesn't feel like exercise to me, in fact, it's fun! That's my opinion, anyway. I jogged for about half an hour a day. Then within two weeks, I increased it to a light run. I ran half a mile for the first week, and then a mile. I had been doing that for a month or so, and I slimmed down drastically! Now, I am power walking, and I am still losing weight. The second thing I changed was the time I ate. I don't eat anything after 7 p.m. If I have to eat something after 7, due to scheduling issues, I only eat proteins. It works guys!! My husband was stuck at a certain weight and he implemented my technique. He has gotten past the plateau. Way past it! His friends comment on how much weight he has lost and how great he looks. A friend of mine just told me last night, that I lost a lot of weight. I love when that happens!
