How to Make a Patriots Cheerleader Costume for Your Infant or Toddler

S Faloon
Daddy is going to love having his little girl dressed as a Patriot's Cheerleader symbolizing his favorite team. After all, he needs something to smile about this season.

Items needed: 1 navy blue long sleeved onesie, 1 pair of silver or red tights or leggings according to the weather, red shorts, 1 1/4 to 1/2 yard of Patriots cloth cut into 4 to 6 four inch squares, 1 Patriots emblem and a pair of white or silver shoes. Purchase or make red, blue and silver pom poms for the shoes. Add a rattle or teething toy that looks like a megaphone or football. Braid red, white and blue lace or cording for a head band. Add a pom pom for a decoration. Sew the pom pom on very securely.

Sew the Patriots emblem to the center of the chest of the onesie.

Lay cloth squares out on a work surface wrong side out. Turn the cloth squares at an angle with one point up, one point down and opposing points on the sides. Sew the squares together with side point to side point until you have a line of 'diamonds'. Fold the top points all down 1/2 inch. Pin in place. Sew across each one to create a loop. Thread a piece of ribbon, shoe lace or lace through all of the loops. This will look like a skirt.

Halloween day: Dress your little one in the onesie and tights or leggings. Tie the string of Patriots cloth diamonds around the little one's waist and finish off with a bow. Trim away excess lace or ribbon for the safety of the baby. If the weather is cold as it is in New England, put a blue hooded sweatshirt on the baby for warmth. You can quickly sew a Patriot's emblem on the front. Cut it in half over the zipper area. Put on white or silver shoes with pom poms tied to the laces or hooked into the straps. Carry a silver or red satiny bag for the baby's treats. It will look like the cheerleaders make-up bag. Every cheerleader must carry her make up case.
