How to Make a Peace Pole

Chad R. Herman
In a time of turmoil and unrest, many people do not want to add to all of the violence and anger in the world. The questions comes often, if we can't fight it, what do we do. The best idea, according to many Peace groups, is to create signs of peace and love. The beautiful part of this is that the energy it takes to create anything like this will be put into the item in question. that means if you have peaceful ideas and thoughts while you're creating your sign of peace, it will make it more peaceful. the number one way to create a sign of peace that radiates peace throughout the world is a peace pole.

What is a peace pole and how do you create one? This is a question that many people have, since there are many out there who have never seen one of these. The idea of the peace pole according to peacepoles.com wasstarted in Japan in 1955 by Masahisa Goi. After the atomic bombings in Japan, he decided to dedicate his life to spreading the message, "May Peace Prevail on Earth". Peace Poles are handcrafted monuments erected the world over as international symbols of Peace. Their purpose is to spread the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in the languages of the world. Now, The World Peace Prayer Society has made it their mission to put up and create as many peace poles as they can. you don't have to be part of the society to make a peace pole, just the want to have peace prevail on earth. So how do you make one?

You'll need to gather up a 1 x 1, a 2 x 2, a 3 X 3, etc, etc, etc, depending on how large you want your peace pole. it must be a square pole. You're going to want to either have the place you buy your pole to cut it into a point on the top, or you're going to have to do it. So now your pole has a point.

Now you must obtain some paint and a translation tool. The nice thing is that the cell phones out there such as the Droid and the Iphone has an app for that.

The length of the pole depends on where you are going to put it. If you're going to have it outside, make it as tall as you want. If it's going to be inside, make sure you don't break anything when you're erecting it. You can even make a smaller one for your desk at work that is only a few inches high. It's up to you. Once you have your pointed pole, you're ready to paint.

If you're the type of person who enjoys using a router, or if you've always wanted a reason to use a router, this is the time to use it. You must paint "may peace prevail on earth" on each side of the pole. If you're interested in cutting it into the pole with a router, you're more than welcome to.

Once you've written it on one side, repeat the same phrase in a different language on each side. If your pole is big enough, write it 2-3 times on each side. However, each time you write the phrase, you must put it in a different language. The different languages will project the comment to all who read it, no matter what the reader's native language is. Together, we can project peace throughout the world.
