How People with High Functioning Autism or Asperger's Syndrome Fall Through the Cracks

Those who suffer from the Classic form of Autism are more than likely to get help than someone with High Functioning Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. Some may wonder why such a thing happens. There are a number of reasons why people with High Functioning Autism of Asperger's Syndrome fall through the cracks, but we will focus on the two most notable ones.

People with High Functioning Autism and Asperger's Syndrome are able to lead successful lives, hold down a job, have a family, and live independently, unlike their counterparts with the classic form of Autism who will need help for the rest of their lives. Because these people are able to do these things, they are only thought to be eccentric or fairly odd. They are not taken seriously when they try to apply for services and obtain the help and support that they might need when coping with issues that life presents.

Those living with High Functioning Autism or Asperger's Syndrome are also misdiagnosed a lot of the time. This occurs because there is not enough awareness about these conditions, thus enabling them to be explained away as being other things, such as suffering from a severe case of hyperactivity disorder or just being totally weird and bratty. Children with High Functioning Autism of Asperger's Syndrome have also thought to be children who are disobedient, spirited, or seriously lacking in discipline. But with more awareness, those who have High Functioning Autism and Asperger's syndrome will have their issues properly addressed and will be treated as they should be. They will be allowed to do what is comfortable for them, and they will live more enriched and fulfilling lives.

As awareness increases, the prevalence of people living with High Functioning Autism or Asperger's Syndrome falling through the cracks will decrease dramatically. These individuals will get the correct support, understanding, and treatment that they need. Not to mention, they will be taken seriously, which will enable them to not only feel better about themselves; they will be more confident in their abilities. They will be better able to cope with life's issues, and they will not have to be consumed with whether or not people understand what they are going through.
