Clinical depression can manifest itself in symptoms such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stomach aches, pains, back and lung disorders along with irritability and moodiness. If you have trouble sleeping, feel irritable all the time, moody and restless, losing weight and feel hopeless about the present and the future you may be clinically depressed.
Treatment should be sought for clinical depression since this disease gets progressively worse leaving you withdrawn and may result in possibly suicide. There are many ways for you to get back to a more positive state and this article will show you a few of the ways that you can achieve this goal.
Eat a balanced diet- eating a balanced diet is key to alleviating depression since the things you consume generally have an effect on how you feel. Carbohydrate rich foods are generally natural antidepressants and these foods generally lift your mood and make you feel happy as anyone who has consumed large amounts of chocolate and ice cream know. This is not advised however as those empty calories would make you obese and decrease your overall health. Healthy carbohydrates can however have the same effect when consumed in moderate quantities.
Consume foods rich in Folic acid, garlic and peppers - folic acid is naturally found in green leafy vegetables and beans and is another food that can help to relieve depression. Garlic and hot peppers have also been found in studies to have positive effects on depression symptoms.
Avoid certain medications - Some prescription drugs such as blood pressure medication may cause depression especially in people over 55. If you think that your medication may be causing your depression symptoms, speak to your doctor and tell him about the symptoms that you are having.
Change up your way of thinking - gloomy thoughts and constant criticizing of yourself and your situation only help to reinforce depression. It is advisable therefore to do another activity which helps to take your mind off these thoughts such as a game, television, exercise or anything else which you enjoy and find helps to take your mind from the negativity.
Seek professional help - with some people the ability to control depression is more than just eating properly and exercising and as such they may need to seek professional help in the form of a guidance councillor, psychologists or psychiatrists which may bring much-needed relief.
Depression is a growing problem and these tips can help you to live a happy life, free from the angst of depression
