1. Television is entertaining. With hundreds of channels depicting anything from hockey games to cooking shows, it's hard not to find something amusing to watch.
2. You can multi-task while watching television. Why not be entertained while eating, exercising, making dinner, paying bills, wrapping presents or writing your article for Helium? Television can make a boring chore more enjoyable.
3. You don't need any skills or experience to be able to watch TV. Playing soccer, fishing, dancing, painting and almost any other type of leisure activity requires at least a little knowledge or experience for you to be good at it. A nuclear physicist is no better at watching television than a teenager in high school.
4. You can watch TV from the comfort of your own home. You can watch TV while wearing your pajamas, sitting in your reclining chair, laying down in bed, with zit cream on your face or any other way that feels comfortable to you. It requires no effort on your part other than holding the remote.
5. Television is everywhere. Now days you can watch TV in your home, at your friends, at the store, on your computer, on your cell phone, in the bowling alley and even in your car!
6. Television is accessible 24/7. You can watch television morning, noon and night. If you're a night owl, shift worker or parent with a baby that won't sleep, you can watch television any time. Whenever your schedule allows for free time, television is available, even in bad weather.
7. Watching television increases your popularity. Whether you are watching television with your friends, on the big screen at the bar or just discussing the latest plot line by the water cooler at work, television gives you something to talk about. At my work we actually have "Survivor" and "Amazing Race" pools where you can choose players and win prizes. It gives you something in common with others.
8. Television can be educational. You don't have to be a good reader to keep up with current events, world news or celebrity gossip. Your can learn about people or countries from all over the world. You can virtually live out your wishes, fantasies, careers, trips or love stories just by clicking on the dial.
9. You can watch TV in any condition. Being tired, sick, drunk, moody, pregnant, disabled, ugly, hairy or just plain weird does not hinder your ability to enjoy television.
10. Television is addictive. Just like gambling, eating sweets, or any other pleasurable activity, people become addicted to watching television. Soap operas, sitcoms and reality shows make sure of it.
Television is a constant in our lives. It's relaxing. It's a pleasant distraction from our work or everyday life. It can fill an emotional void or be a great stress reliever. Is watching too much TV stopping me from living life to it's fullest? Ask me later, I'm in the middle of my show.
