How to Make the Perfect Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich

Quinn
Everybody in the world has at least one thing in common. We all need to eat. While different cultures prefer different cuisines, food has always been, and will always be, the ultimate motivation behind almost everything we do. We all enjoy living like kings and indulging ourselves with fine delicacies, but we also don't always have the time, or money required to prepare a magnificent feast every day. Therefore, we resort to simple meals and snacks for temporary nourishment. One of the most common examples of brief sustenance is the peanut butter & jelly sandwich, also known as a PB & J. And while PB & J's don't make themselves, it is not an arduous process. With a just a few easy to follow steps and some basic instruction, anyone can make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.

Now before you go out making PB & J's left and right, it is imperative that you make sure that there is a need for it. The last thing you want is to let a perfectly good PB & J go to waste, so if neither you, nor anyone else has made the commitment to eat the sandwich once it's been made, don't waste your time and/or ingredients. With that said, I'm hungry! Let's make a PB & J!

Now that you've got your sandwich recipient, the next thing you need is the proper ingredients and equipment. Here's what you need:

Ingredients:
1.
Bread (White, wheat, rye, etc. Your choice.)
2.
Peanut Butter (Crunchy or creamy. Once again, up to you.)
3.
Jelly/Jam (Any kind will work)

Equipment:
1.
Plate to serve it on.
2.
Napkin
3.
Butter knife

Now that we've got everything we need, it's time to get our hands a dirty. First, grab your plate, and lay flat two pieces of bread next to each other. Then grab your knife, and carefully use it to scoop up a reasonable amount of peanut butter. The amount that you take is completely your choice. Then, while holding the peanut buttered knife in one hand, and one piece of bread in the other, gently spread the peanut butter evenly across the top surface of the bread. Don't be afraid to be firm, some peanut butter can be pretty thick and difficult to spread, but be careful not to be too rough, or else you may rip a hole in the bread have to start over. Once you've finished, decide if you have enough peanut butter. If not, then repeat the step as many times as necessary, but if you feel that this amount of peanut butter will suffice, then pick up your napkin, and use it to clean off your knife.

Once your knife is clean, do exactly the same as you did with the peanut butter, but this time, use the second piece of bread and the jelly instead of the peanut butter. Now don't go thinking that just because you're halfway done that the rest of this is going to be a trouble-free cakewalk through the land of magic, laughter and chocolate bunnies, because believe it or not, jelly can be one tricky son of a gun. It doesn't always like to stay on the knife as easily as the peanut butter, and unlike peanut butter, most jelly can stain your clothing, so be sure to be extra careful when handling the jelly. Much grace is required when applying jelly to a slice of bread, so keep focused on the task at hand. After you're done, combine the two pieces of bread together by joining the peanut butter with the jelly, and you have the perfect PB & J in your hands.

Whether you're feeding a family, friends, or just need a mid-day snack for yourself, you can never go wrong with a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They're easy to make, nutritious, and easily affordable. So next time you feel that funny sensation deep in the pit of your belly, and you want a delicious meal but don't want to be hassled by timely preparation and a big mess to clean up afterwards, go make yourself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
