Reduce Your HP-48gx Troubleshooting Time with a Simple Diagnostic Test

Nina Nixon
The HP-48gx streamlines statistical analysis and scientific calculations. However, when a feature goes awry, computing intricate computations by hand might lead you to second guess the accuracy of the answers. Before resorting to manual calculations, perform a diagnostic self-test on your HP 48gx. When finished, you will quickly be able to determine if you should to take it in for service.

1. Press the "ON" key and hold it down.

2. Press the "E" key and then release it.

3. Release the "ON" key and then wait until the messages "IROM OK," "IRAM OK," and "OK-48" have each displayed once during the test.

4. Press the "ON" key and hold it down.

5. Press the "C" key and then release both the "ON" key and the "C" key at the same time. (This step combined with step 4 will end the diagnostic test.)

6. Contact HP Support for service if any one of the following messages, "IROM OK," "IRAM OK" and "OK-48," as indicated in Step 3 did not appear during the test or your calculator still does not work.
