My car is a 5 year old Ford Crown Victoria, and knowing how to perform a Ford brake repair myself has saved me hundreds of dollars. It is a known fact that busy people do not have the time to do simple repairs themselves, or do they? Knowing that doing simple repairs to your car efficiently helps you to save money is inspiring enough to learn the steps to repair your brakes. Being a penny pincher myself, my inspiration was the word "saving" to perform my Ford brake repair.
For my Ford brake repair the design of the brakes is easy to repair. The front rotors are designed to be removed, repaired, or replaced easily. It is also easy to remove and replace its front brake pads. So, with that said, here are the eight easy steps on how to do Ford brake repair jobyourself:
Eight Easy Steps for Your Ford Brake Repair
Step 1: To start with the Ford brake repair, ready your tools and supplies. You need tools a floor jack or bottle jack, a jack stand, wrench, lug wrench, brake spreader or large C-clamp, flat-blade screwdriver, rubber mallet, and chisel.
Step 2: Remove the front tires and rotors. Using your jack and lug wrench, remove the tires and set aside. Do not forget to lift the caliper off the rotor and secure it with a piece of wire or something to protect it while you are removing the rotor. Remove the rotor retaining clip with the use of a chisel and a mallet or small hammer and the rotor will slide out easily. Clean the rotor and inspect if it needs to be replaced.
Step 3: Reinstall the re-surfaced or new rotor and tighten the lug nuts. It is best if you replace the rotor with a new one to guarantee optimum performance
Step 4: This is the next crucial step for your own Ford brake repair job - Removing the brake pads. Recompress the piston of the brake caliper before removing the old brake pads. Remove the brake master cylinder cover and re-compress the piston by pushing the inner pad very slowly. Once re-compressing is done, put the cylinder cover on securely.
Step 5: Install the new brake pads when step 4 is finished. It is so easy to replace the brake pads because old brake pads snap out easily and the new brake pads snap in quite easily.
Step 6: Return the brake caliper over the rotor and re-install the bolts securely.
Step 7: Re-install the wheels by tightening the lug nuts. Remove the jack and the mechanics are finished! You just completed your first Ford brake repairjob! However, there is one more step, and that is to see how well your mechanic skills actually were.
Step 8: Test the brakes. Simply push down on the peddle, ensuring that it is firm. Start the car and take it for a test spin in a safe area with little traffic.
