If you are interested in moving to South America to live in Argentina on a permanent basis you may be interested in trying to obtain permanent resident status. Permanent resident status in Argentina can be obtained by successfully getting your self a permanent residence visa. Unfortunately there is only one way that foreigners can obtain a permanent residence visa in Argentina.

If you are a parent, child or spouse of a citizen of Argentina then you can apply to receive a permanent resident visa from the Argentinian consulate before traveling to South America. All applications for permanent resident visas have to be made at the Argentinian consulate. By successfully obtaining a permanent residence visa for Argentina you are able to live and work in any part of Argentina that you desire.

There are a number of requirements that must be met in order to apply for the Argentinian permanent residence visa. You will need to meet the family requirement of being either a parent, child or spouse of a citizen of Argentina. You will need to have a notarized copy of the identity card of the Argentinian citizen that you are related to. If you are the parent of a citizen of Argentina then you will need to prove your that you are related by having a legal copy of a birth certificate of the child. If you are applying as the spouse of a citizen of Argentina then you will need to have a legal copy of your marriage certificate. This will need to be in Spanish or on an international form. If neither of those is the case you will need to get an accredited translator to give you a certified translation of the document. You can get a list of accredited translators from the Argentinian consulate. And in some cases you may even be able to get it done at the consulate.

Once you are able to meet the family requirement there are a few other requirements to be met. You will need to have a passport that is valid for at least a year. You will need to provide a few passport sized photos of your self. You will need to have a certified birth certificate for your self with an international form. You will need a statement of good conduct from the police in your home country showing that you have no criminal offenses on record. You will also need a medical statement from the consulate showing that you are in good health. You will have to have payment in full for the application. And if you are over the age of 16 you will need to have a certified declaration that you do not have any criminal antecedents.
