Scrap pieces of cloth
Needle
Colorful beads
Fabric paint
Fabric glitter, if desired
Paint brush
Fabric glue
Scissors
Pencil or tailor's chalk
Embroidery hoops
Decide the monogram or initials or design you will use:
You can use either all the initials of your name, or a favorite design or motif that appeals to you. Look for ideas in your kitchen where you can get inspiration from tile patterns, chandelier motifs and colors, or even a plate or cup! Keep your eyes open for design and pattern ideas.
Decide the font and colors:
Calligraphy is beautiful and intricate but also requires time and patience. Look up calligraphy designs online to find one that you can easily accomplish.
Choose vibrant colors that stand out on your apron. Of course, the color and pattern of your apron is the basis on which you will choose colors. Also, try to match the colors on the apron with your kitchen colors so that you can show off your personalized apron in your kitchen.
Trace your design on the apron:
Use a tailor's chalk or a vanishing fabric pencil to trace your pattern on the cooking apron. Use enough pressure so that you can make out the outline. Remove the paper and go over the pattern once more so that you can see the design clearly.
Choose from the options below to personalize your cooking apron. You can combine any of the methods below to make your own custom apron.
Fabric Paint:
Use fabric paint tubes or fabric paint in a bottle and a paint brush. Go over the traced outline of the design at least 2 times so that the design is clear.
You can sprinkle sparkly fabric glitter while the paint is still wet to get a glittery finish for your personalized apron.
Allow the apron to dry at least 24 hours before using it.
Embroidery:
Hand embroidery is an elegant way to dress up clothes. It is easy and simple to do and you can learn advanced stitches online to further dress up your apron.
Attach the apron between embroidery hoops so that it is held taut. A simple stem stitch is quick and easy. Thread the needle with embroidery thread, and go under and over the fabric, keeping in mind to keep the stitches slightly slant. This will create elongated stitches that look complicated but are worth the effort.
If you know how to use a sewing machine, there are hundreds of stitches that you can do and show off your creativity.
Beads:
Beads are an easy way to make any garment fancy. Use a sewing thread and colorful beads to make a funky apron. Thread the beads on to the needle, and go under and over the fabric to stitch the beads onto the needle. Experiment with colorful beads of different sizes.
Ribbon:
If you are using ribbon to personalize your apron, follow this easy method to quickly sew the ribbon following your pattern. Use a 2mm - 3mm wide ribbon and a big-eyed needle. Thread the ribbon and go under and over the fabric, making sure the ribbon stays flat on the surface. Embellish the ribbon with beads and embroidery if you like.
These are some ways you can personalize your aprons. Choose a method that is suitable to your time and needs.
