Items Needed for the Baseball Pennant (for these instructions, I will make a 12 inch X 18 inch pennant)
-One piece of foam board measuring 12-inches by 18-inches (you can use poster board, but foam board is more durable)
-Assortment of pictures of your child playing baseball (be sure to include some with friends and family)
-Craft glue
-Scissors
-Craft knife
-Yardstick
-Pencil
-Felt
-Baseball awards (such as ribbons or medals) (optional)
-Picture hanging kit
NOTE: Foam board and picture hanging kit can be purchased at framing stores. Many stores will even tell you the best way to hang the pennant.
Making the Baseball Pennant
Using the yardstick, find the center on one 12-inch end of the foam board and mark it with the pencil. The mark should be six inches from the top and from the bottom. Next, align one end of the yardstick on the pencil mark and the other end to the top corner of the opposite end of the foam board. Draw a straight line on the foam board along the edge of the angled yardstick. Do the same on the bottom end of the foam board. Use the craft knife to cut these two sections away to form the pennant shape.
Decorating the Baseball Pennant
Pennants are hung with the larger side on the left and the pointed end on the right, so this is how you should lay your pennant when working on it. I am going to decorate this baseball pennant as a collage, so I cut my pictures in various shapes and sizes, placing them on the pennant, but not gluing them. Once I have all my pictures cut and positioned, I then glue them in place one by one and let it dry. I leave one inch clear on the 12-inch side and cover it with a strip of felt. I apply two strips of felt approximately one-half inch wide and three inches long to the top and bottom corners. I attach picture fasteners to the back of the foam board for hanging.
My personalized baseball pennant is now ready to hang.
