How to Personalize Your Own Christmas Ornaments

Cindy Wright
Buying personalized Christmas ornaments can be quite expensive. An alternative to buying them is to make your own. Not only do you save lots of money, you also can decorate and personalize them how you want. With today's economy saving money is a very good idea. Also you can make decorating the ornaments a family evening.

I will cover two different types of ornaments you can make. These are great to use for personalized Christmas ornaments.

First I will explain how to personalize glass Christmas ball ornaments. Purchase however many of this cheap glass balls that you think you will need. You can purchase them in whatever colors that you personally like the best. You can put names on them or short four to five word quotes. We have made some with our names and we have some with Merry Christmas and Joy to the World.

Use craft pens in whatever colors you like that will show up over the color of the ornament. If you like and you can draw well you can draw stuff on the ornament such as stars or a snowman. You can also use Christmas stencils to add these extras. If you like the sparkle look you can use glue on the designs and sprinkle glitter over the glass ball.

You can hang your ornament with wire ornament hangers or use ribbon to hang the ornament on your tree.

Clear glass ornaments also make great ornaments that are cheap to buy and also great to create personalized Christmas ornaments.

Fill the clear ornaments with popcorn. It's very easy to do. Just remove the metal top from the ornament. Put 15 to 20 kernels of microwavable popcorn in the ornament. Place the ornament in a paper bag and put it in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Listen very carefully because you may not need to leave them in for two minutes. When the popcorn is done popping, remove the ornament carefully as it will be very hot. Sprinkle some glitter in the ball if you like. Once again you can hang it with a wire ornament hanger or use a ribbon.

You can use different colors of sand art to fill the balls with and then use glue and glitter to put a sparkle on the outside.

Another nice thing that you can with the clear bulbs is to crumble potpourri into very small pieces and put into the bulb. Hang them on the tree by your Christmas lights so the warmth of the lights will warm the potpourri and put the scent through your home. For the Christmas season apple pie, cinnamon and pumpkin pie scented potpourri would be best for the smell of the season. You can also draw names and/or sayings on these bulbs. Hang them with wire ornament hangers or ribbon.

Your tree will look beautiful and be personalized to your taste and your family.
