Making a personalized Mother's Day card is an excellent craft project for a child to undertake. The child will enjoy creating this pop-up card from scraps of paper, yarn, and other materials. The end result will be a unique gift for a mom, grandmother, or other important woman in the child's life.
Materials needed to make this personalized Mother's Day card:
Cardstock or construction paper
Glue
Markers
Googly eyes
Yarn
Stickers or foam shapes
Make the structure of the personalized Mother's Day card. To begin making this personalized pop-up card, take a standard size piece of cardstock (or construction paper). Lay the cardstock horizontally and fold it in half. Have the child to decorate the outside of the card with the stickers, foam shapes, and markers.
Create the pop-up insert for the personalized Mother's Day card. Form the background for the pop-up from a 4" X 4" square of cardstock (the same color as the card itself). Fold this small piece of cardstock in half and center it on the crease of the card. Make a ΒΌ inch tab on the right and left sides of this insert by folding the edges under. Line up the crease of the pop-up tab with the card's center crease and glue the tabs to the card. When the card is closed, the insert should fold forward inside the card.
Make the pop-up person for the personalized Mother's Day card. The most thrilling part of making this personalized Mother's Day card is creating the person on the inside of the card. The child will have a fun time making the pop-up look like him or herself. The construction of the person is very basic. Begin by making a circle for the head. Draw on a nose and mouth with markers and glue on googly eyes to complete the face. To add hair, glue on small pieces of yarn and create the child's hairstyle. Using the same color of cardstock used for the face, cut out two arms with hands attached. Make the person's body by cutting out the shape of a shirt from a different color of cardstock. Once all the pieces are constructed, it's time to glue them to the pop-up insert inside the card. Before gluing the body and face, fold both pieces in half to form a crease. When attaching them to the insert, line up the creases before securing them with glue. Be careful not to attach the pieces to the card itself. After attaching the arms to the insert, fold them in so they're even with the sides of the pop-up insert. This will make it possible for the entire person to fold up inside of the card.
Add the finishing touches to the personalized Mother's Day card. To complete this pop-up card, simply add a meaningful caption. On the outside, write "Mom (or Grandma), I love you..." On the inside, finish the slogan with "this much!" When the card is opened, the pop-up person will appear with outstretched arms to validate this sentiment.
A personalized Mother's Day card is an inexpensive, yet meaningful way to show the recipient she is loved and appreciated. Why not sit down with a child and help create a fun and thoughtful pop-up card for someone today?
