Personalized Wedding Scarf Afghan
Supplies:
5 to 6 ivory crocheted or knit scarfs
Ivory yarn
Yarn needle
Black fabric pen
Medium ivory doily with solid middle and lace around the edges
Ivory thread
Needle
Scissors
Tape measures
Pins
Directions:
1. Lay the scarves out on a large, flat surface. Make sure the scarves are matched evenly lengthwise. Put the first two scarves on top of each other, with right sides together. Using the yarn needle and ivory yarn, Sew the first two scarves together lengthwise. When you get to the end of the scarves, tightly knot the yarn to secure the sewn pieces. Cut yarn and re-thread the needle.
3. Lay another scarf on top of one of the scarves that were sewn together, putting right sides together. Repeat step one until all scarves are sewn together. I find six scarves makes the perfect size for an afghan. This will depend on the length and width of the scarves you choose.
4. Lay the wedding scarf afghan out on a large flat surface. It should now look like a beautiful crocheted or knit afghan. You may need to gently stretch the afghan where the scarves were joined to get it to lay completely flat. I firmly rub my hands across the afghan and seams and this usally does the trick.
5. Using the fabric marker, write the bride and groom's name and their wedding date on the center of the doily. I usually put the bride and groom's name on top, then write their wedding date on the bottom. Another option is to have this information professionally embroidered on the doily.
6. Lay the scarf afghan right side up. Using the tape measure, find the center of the scarf afghan. Mark the middle with a pin. Place the doily centered on the pin. Hold the doily in place with pins.
7. Using the ivory thread and needle, attach the doily to the scarf afghan by slip stitching around the solid part of the doily. When you get to the end of the doily, double knot the thread for added security. Cut thread and remove pins.
