State of Residency: Your state of residency is important so that the pet health insurance company can access information about inflation, taxes and other financial data. This data will help the company decide what services may cost in that area and therefore what you would cost them. Long story short, the more money that you could potentially cost the company, the more they will charge you now.
Plan Type: Pet insurance companies mirror other types of insurance in many ways, one being the use of different types of plans to offer different levels of services. These different levels may call for lower deductibles or more covered services, in any likelihood, they are important to the policy forming stage. The better the service you choose, the less money you will have in your pocket.
Pet Species: The species of your pet can make a difference because bigger animals seem to have more costly services or treatments. This could be due to the size causing more stress on the body of the animal or that smaller animals just move better. In any regard, insurance for a cat will almost always be cheaper than that of a dog due to the amount of trouble a young dog may cause.
Breed: The breed of your pet can make a difference, especially if you have liability coverage as a part of your overall pet insurance package. Breeds, such as pit bulls, cause more damage and liability to be open to the owner and the insurance company they choose.
Size: As was mentioned before, the bigger the animal the bigger the quote or premium usually is. This has nothing to do discrimination but instead for the safety of the animal and everyone around them.
Age: As your pet gets older he or she will likely have a few more injuries and your service may still be needed. Insurance companies see this as an inevitable cost and they won't offer coverage. However, if you start the coverage when the pet is younger and then they grow past the current age limit most insurance companies will not get rid of the old stuff, they just make room for the new.
