How to Make a Photo Look Old Using Gimp 2.6

Today I am going to teach you how to make a photo look old using Gimp 2.6. If you are new at Gimp, don't worry! Whether you are a beginner or expert, this project can be completed in a matter of minutes.

Let's get started...

Step 1: To get started, open Gimp 2.6. Locate the "File" button at the top of the Gimp window. It will be at the top-left of the window. Select "File" and scroll down to "Open". A new window is going to appear. Find the photo you would like to use, highlight the photo (click on the photo once) and then click "Open". This will insert the photo into the Gimp window.

Step 2: Now that you have the picture you want to look old, the fun begins! You are going to create a new layer of the same image. Do this by locating "Layer" at the top of the Gimp window (up toward the same place you clicked "File" earlier). Select "Layer" and scroll down to "New Layer"; it should be first on the list. Name your new layer whatever you would like, but make sure it will remind you what the layer is for later when you look back on the layer. I would suggest something like "Old Color" or something else on that lines. Make sure the layer fill type is set on "Transparency". When you are finished, click "OK". You can view the layer window by pressing 'Ctrl + L' on your keyboard (it is best to open the layer window now just so you have it on hand for later).

Step 3: Take a look at the photo you are using and tell whether you would like it darker or lighter, or if you just want it to stay how it is. If you would like to darken or lighten the image, go to the top of the window and locate "Colors". Scroll down to where it says "Brightness-Contrast" and select. A new window will appear and allow you to adjust the photo however you would like. When you have finished adjusting the photo, click "OK".

Step 4: Now here comes the very easy yet highly cool part; changing the photo so it looks old. Look to the top of the window and find "Filters". Select "Filters" and scroll down to "Decor". When the new scroll down screen appears, find "Old Photo" and select. A new window will pop up. Check "Defocus", "Sepia", "Mottle", and "Work on copy". Once you have finished, select "OK".

And that is all you do to make a photo look old using Gimp 2.6! I hope you enjoy your new creation!
