One obvious choice for the hospital for the labor and delivery of your baby is the hospital that your doctor does their deliveries. Some doctors will go to the hospital that you choose, but most will have a hospital where they do all of their work and will require you to go there for one reason or another.
Another possible scenario is that instead of your doctor having a preference of where you go, your insurance company may steer you to a hospital. Now, you can always tell them you don't want to and go somewhere else, but know that this will cost you if they don't have an agreement to work with that hospital.
You may have a particular concern that you know is handled appropriately by a specific hospital. For instance, if a particular hospital in your area is known for their approach to pain medications or how they handle potential emergency caesarean section situations. Just make sure that this can work with the doctor or insurance company you are working with.
If faith is a major part of your life it is possible that you may not feel comfortable with a sterile hospital that has no spiritual components. For instance, if there is a hospital that is run under the understanding that they use Catholic or Baptist principles (or any other denomination) that may make you more comfortable.
It may be as simple as the location of the hospital itself. If you don't want to be caught 45 miles from your hospital when your water breaks it may be worth it to you to consider the location of your hospital as long as it is covered by your doctor or insurance company.
These are just a few different things to think about when considering how to pick a hospital for labor and delivery. If you are still trying to figure out what to do, consult friends or family for how they made this difficult decision.
