How to Pick the Perfect Mother's Day Card

Angel Sharum
There are literally thousands of Mother's day cards to choose from these days. Cards range from funny to sentimental, religious to downright naughty, and everything in between. How do you know which card your mom will love out of all those offered?

There are ways to narrow down your Mother's day card selection. Let's go over some of them to help you pick the perfect card for mom this year.

Tip #1 for Selecting a Mother's Day Card

Consider personality and interests when picking a card for your mother this year.

If your mom is fun loving, always cracking jokes, and constantly watches Comedy Central, a funny Mother's day card is in order. A card that brings a chuckle is sure to win you brownie points with a funny mom.

If mom is digging into the family background for a genealogy project, a sentimental card would be a good bet. Something that tugs at her heartstrings and reminds her of days gone by will fit seamlessly into her life, showing her you are aware of her interests.

A strong personality trait or interest is integral to your mom. Use it to your advantage to pick the best Mother's day card this year.

Tip #2 for Selecting a Mother's Day Card

Let passion be your guide when picking a card.

A mother who loves to write will enjoy a card that speaks to her passion for the written word. If you can't find a card pertaining to writing, purchase one with a picture of an object that has to do with writing such as pen and paper, and write your own message inside. A message offering encouragement for getting published, praise for writing accomplishments, or talking about a specific piece of work you enjoyed is sure to make your mom feel good this Mother's day.

Anybody with a mom who is an animal lover should have no problem finding a card. There are cuddly animals on plenty of Mother's day cards with sweet messages inside. If your mom is on the quirky side, choose a card with the picture of the animal distorted in some funny way. For example, cats and dogs with large bugging out eyes are popular. These cards usually contain a funny message mom will get a kick out of.

There are even cards for moms who are biker chicks! If you look hard enough, you can find a Mother's day card to go along with whatever passion your mom enjoys.

Tip #3 for Selecting a Mother's Day Card

Use the Mother's day card you pick to mend fences or strengthen your relationship.

Mothers and children don't always get along. If this has been the case in the past and things are better, buy a card that shows your mom everything is good now. Traditional Mother's day cards are full of loving, sentimental messages. These convey feelings of warmth and caring. Pick the one best suited to your situation, and then add your own message to make it even more special.

As you can see, it's not hard to pick the perfect Mother's day card. All it takes is a little thought and consideration. Think of the things that make your mom unique, reassure her of your feelings, or make her laugh and you are sure to get a big hug on Mother's day.

Good article, which is very helpful. I can spend too long, really, looking for appropriate cards, but I was lucky this year, as one stood out. Mother's Day was on March 22nd in the UK, so earlier than in the US for some reason.

Nice tips. I usually opt for funny cards, or I help my kids make Mother's Day cards for their grandmas. :)

I usually do the dog thing w/ my mom's cards. She has three (count them THREE) Yorkshire Terriers, so my cards usually have one of those on them. :-)

I like to keep the cards simple. I hate the cards that have the long mushy poems or elaborates messages. If I wan to include something "personal" I'll write it myself.
