How to Pick a Swimsuit

Reduce Swimsuit Anxiety with Good Choices

firebrand
The summer is approaching, and that means swimsuit season is in the near future. This can be a source of stress and anxiety for many women as the tendency to find fault with our figures is quite a commonality we seem to share. Swimsuits come in many shapes and sizes. You should choose one based on how well it will suit your body shape, and these helpful hints will give you an idea of how to do that.

As it has likely been almost a year since you last stepped into that old suit from last year, it would be wise to consider not wearing it this year. Set it aside, and reevaluate your figure to make sure that you have the right swimsuit for your body now - not last year's (or five years ago) body.

What is your body shape? Consider carefully what you are faced with in the dressing room. Follow these steps depending on your body shape.

Decide on a one piece swimsuit or a two piece swimsuit?

Most people don't have a perfect body, and there is no shame in a one piece if you are not one of these people. There are many benefits of the one piece suit. It does not reveal everything, even if you have a perfect body, there is nothing wrong with leaving some things to the imagination. If you like to swim, surf, or sea kayak, a one piece swimsuit is more functional, and it is often more comfortable than a tie top bikini that will cut into your skin. Wearing a one piece makes it easier to keep the top from falling off - as long as you don't get one that ties.

Bust size is a key factor for women in the swimsuit department. Both small and large busts create issues for the swimsuit. The small bust is something to contend with in a swimsuit, but it can be dealt with rather simply. You can highlight the curves you have using a triangle shaped top. You could also find a swimsuit with padding in the top, an underwire, or a demi-bra. These will create a little boost to your bust that can be quite flattering.

A large bust is going to need extra support, and again, an underwire is helpful to add support here. Do not choose a halter or a tie top if you are large busted. These will be cutting into your skin, might come loose, and will not lift you up. A top with wide straps can be much more comfortable and will also minimize the appearance of your bust.

The torso can be long or short depending on the woman, and the length of the torso should make a difference for you when shopping for a swimsuit. If your torso is short, there are ways to lengthen the appearance of it in your swimsuit. You can wear a suit with high cut legs or a one piece with a plunging neckline to lengthen your legs and torso. Boy shorts and boxy bottoms will make your legs and torso look shorter. If your torso is long and your legs are long, you can get away with boy shorts and skirts, but don't wear vertical stripes or high necklines. You could try a cutout one piece to accent your long torso.

If your stomach is large, you can get a suit that has a tummy supporter in it. There are also tankinis and you should avoid small bikinis. If your bottom is big, try wearing a bikini bottom that has a straight slim miniskirt or three inch sides. Don't wear boy shorts or skimpy bikinis either.

Consider these tips when you're shopping for your summertime swimsuit, and then have a great time at the pool or beach.

I don't DO swimsuits. In fact, I rarely did them when I was young and tiny. I just didn't feel comfortable. BUT my daughter will appreciate this info.
