Speaking in public can make anybody nervous if they haven't done it regularly. Watching everybody's eyes on you as you speak can make a person sweat, stutter or forget the words that they were supposed to say. By having knowledge of a topic, some courage and frequent practice, you will be able to speak in public without feeling overwhelmed each time.
When picking a topic to speak about, it should be something that you have knowledge in. These kind of topics can be about a specific subject that you studied in school, information about your favorite hobby, places to visit in your hometown or a movie or book that you enjoy talking about. If you a pick a topic that you have first hand knowledge with, it will be easier to speak about.
As you give your speech, you should be yourself. By staying true to yourself, you can allow others to see your personality, which will make your audience feel more comfortable. It will give them a chance to get to know you as they listen to your speech. Talk about your topic to the audience as if you were telling a friend about it. Speak with passion and enthusiasm so that you can get your listeners excited too.
Other topics that are easy to speak about are your career and family. Most people can understand your point of view when discussing work and family topics. These topics also help the audience to relate to you better. If we love our career, then it can make a fun topic to discuss and tell others about. There is no denying that we love our family. You can discuss funny family stories about your children, the holidays or even about tragic events that you might have endured. Personal topics can bring a warmer feeling to your speeches. The more at ease you feel with your topic, the more the audience will want to listen to you.
Once you have a topic that you are familiar with, you can feel more comfortable speaking to an audience. Remember that when you are speaking in public, don't worry about others judging you. You are there to inform, share a story or entertain. When you speak about a topic that you are passionate about, it will make it a more enjoyable experience.
