Topic to Write About

Kurt Evans
As a writer, I'm always faced with the question; how to pick a topic to write about? The easy thing to do is write what you know but will there be people willing to read what you know?

Internet

This is where the internet comes in. If you do your research right on a topic, then you will get read on the internet.

How I Find A Topic To Write About

This is how I find a topic to write about online. But, before I tell you that; I must first tell you how I come up with ideas. I carry a 5 and a half-inch x 3 and a half-inch binder with me wherever I go.

Ideas For Articles

When I get ideas for articles, I'll write them down in the binder.

Research

Then, when I sit down at the computer, I'll go to Google and start my research phase of deciding what to write about. I do this to gauge the popularity of the keywords on the give me an idea of, if the topic is popular enough to have people that want to read about it.

Keywords

I might try putting in different word variations for keywords to find out if there's a market for that topic. For example, if I type a topic into Google and it only comes up with a few thousand results; then I know that topic isn't very popular. If, on the other hand; it comes up with a internet. If nobody is searching for the keywords that I'm using; then my articles are never going to get read.

Google

When I do my research on a topic to write about, I put in the whole article title into Google. This will few million results, then I know that it's a topic that has some interest in it. Sometimes one word in the title can mean the difference between a few thousand results to a few million results. So, you just have to play around with it to see what you can come up with.

I use a personal digital recorder rather than a notebook (did an article on it). Good suggestions on key words!
